Dear Toastmasters

 

Did you know that mentoring is not a one way downward communication? But a partnership. There is a misconception that mentors should have all the answers and care for the mentee. In this training, we are debunking on how you can have a better mentor-mentee partnership.

Some of the skills you learn in the workshop will also benefit you in your communication with you colleagues and family members.

 

Have you had a mentor, but not sure how to make the best out of this partnership?  Or you are a mentor, but not sure how you can communicate effectively with your mentee? 

 

In this workshop, you will explore the following questions:

1.    What is the Toastmasters mentorship program?

2.    How can a mentee build a meaningful relationship with a mentor?

3.    What are the skillsets for a mentor to communicate with a mentee?

 

Through this workshop, you will gain an insight into how grow a fruitful mentor-mentee partnership.

 Guest fee: 50 HKD. (The workshop is free for Toastmasters and facilitators.)

Biography of workshop leaders:


1st workshop – Introduction of TI mentorship program
Kin-Ching "KC" Tang, DTM is a past division director and a Toastmaster for 4 years.
He is a proud member of South Horizons Toastmasters Club, as well as of clubs in

Hong Kong, Macao and Shenzhen. He has extensive experiences in mentoring members 

and clubs, and has a hand in the chartering of 2 new clubs in Hong Kong,

both of which have achieved Distinguished and above in their first year of establishment.
When he is not speaking as a Toastmaster, KC takes an active interest in the line of
education, and in particular, skills and vocational education.



2nd workshop - How to build a successful relationship with your mentor?
Andrew Adler, Ph.D. is a Toastmaster and licensed psychologist in New York State
(US) He earned doctoral and master degrees in clinical psychology from Yale University.
Andrew has specialized in evaluating and treating a wide range of psychological
difficulties for over 20 years. He has also taught at Yale University and supervised
medical students as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at New York Medical
College. Currently, he is the director of and clinical psychologist at the Adler Family
Centre in Hong Kong.


3rd workshop – What are the skillsets for a mentor for a better communication?
Roberto Fong, ACB, CL, is a fun-tastic, creative, and enthusiastic language teacher,
communication trainer, and public speaking coach. Currently, he is the founding
president of Competitive Speakers Hong Kong Toastmasters Club of which the 2012
World Champion of Public Speaking, Ryan Avery, helped to set up. He was featured in
Mentor of the Month in the Toastmasters Magazine of Oct 2016. He has been a mentor
for S.H.HO College of Chinese University of Hong Kong (2012-2013) & Li Fung
Academy Toastmasters Club (2015-2016).
